Cribs

On December 28, 2010 the Consumer Products Safety Commission (CPSC) authorized extensive new crib safety standards for traditional cribs, especially for those made of steel and wood.  The new regulations prohibit drop-side cribs and require considerable new construction enhancements and labeling.

The new crib standards mean that all hotels have compliant cribs in service by December 28, 2012.  All non-compliant cribs must be destroyed and cannot be given away or donated.  Play yards are not affected by the new regulations.

If you are not sure if your baby cribs are compliant with the new standards, request a certificate of compliance for 16 CFR 1219 (full sized cribs) and 16 CFR 1220 (non-full sized cribs) from the retailer or manufacturer.
